Homeless people offered access to Manchester libraries under new pilot scheme

In the UK, Manchester City Council has launched a pilot scheme to allow homeless people to join its 22 libraries and access its digital services, reports the BBC.

The project allows people who are being assisted by the homeless charity Lifeshare to register for a library card by showing a letter from Lifeshare instead of proof of address.

A council spokesman said they would be able to access all library services, including free use of computers and the internet, and would not be fined for overdue items.

Lifeshare’s operations manager Judith Vickers said the scheme would be ‘a lifeline for many’.
