Canadian bookselling chain Indigo to open first US store

Canadian bookselling chain Indigo Books and Music will open its first store in the US next year, reports Publishers Weekly.

Indigo will open its first store in Short Hills, New Jersey, and has plans to open another two-to-four stores over the next two years. ‘If we experience what we think we’re going to be seeing, then we’ll look at further growth,’ said CEO Heather Reisman. ‘We will definitely open a couple [of stores] before making any major commitments.’

In Canada, the bookseller has 89 large stores under the Indigo and Chapters brands, and 122 small stores under the Coles, Indigospirit, SmithBooks and The Book Company brands.
