Lamond to leave Little Hare

Margrete Lamond has stepped down as publisher of Hardie Grant Egmont (HGE) imprint Little Hare Books.

HGE said in a statement that it will not replace the publisher role, and will move the imprint to its Melbourne office. Little Hare commissioning editor Alyson O’Brien will continue to acquire for the list.

Lamond was publisher of Little Hare for over 10 years, publishing picture books by authors and illustrators including Margaret Wild, Libby Gleeson, Freya Blackwood, Andrew Joyner and Bronwyn Bancroft. She told Books+Publishing: ‘After a couple of wonderfully fulfilling decades in publishing, I’m taking this opportunity to retire gracefully into genteel obscurity for a while to consider future directions.’

HGE managing director Annabel Barker said the company is ‘sad to be saying goodbye to a much-admired member of the Little Hare team, and we acknowledge the great service Margrete has made to our list and to the Australian picture book landscape’. ‘The books Margrete has published have won awards and accolades throughout the world and her particular style and elegance of publishing is unsurpassed in the industry,’ said Barker.

Barker said HGE remains ‘fully committed to Little Hare’ and has ‘strong plans for the imprint moving forward’.
