Splatt selected for Australia Council’s Kolkata publishing residency

Melbourne-based author and editor Sophie Splatt has been selected for the Australia Council’s inaugural Seagull School of Publishing residency in Kolkata, India.

Splatt will travel to Kolkata in January 2018 for the three-month residency, where she will attend classes in editing at the Seagull School of Publishing, which is affiliated with boutique publisher Seagull Books; meet with local authors, illustrators, publishers and distributors; and visit several local book fairs.

The Australia Council described the residency as a ‘pilot project’ that is ‘part of a wider push by the Australia Council into the Indian literature market, which is identified in the Australia Council’s International Arts Strategy as a priority area for development’.
