Library manager wins top gong at inaugural NT Digital Excellence Awards

Alice Springs Town Council library services manager Georgina Davison has won the Minister’s gold award and community benefit award at the inaugural Northern Territory Digital Excellence Awards, reports Information Age.

Davison was recognised for leading the libraries’ ‘STEAM into Alice’ program, which uses robotics programs to engage students with digital resources.

Davison told Information Age that ‘a lot of the children who live in the town camps don’t have access to this type of thing at all, so we thought it would be great to show them what it’s all about, while also teaching them critical thinking and problem-solving skill development’.

Davison said she hoped the recognition would ensure that the program, which only received four months’ funding when it launched in October this year, will continue beyond January 2018.
