OverDrive reports almost 60 libraries topped one million digital lends

In the US, library provider OverDrive has revealed 58 international library systems recorded over one million digital lends in 2017—up from 49 in 2016, reports Publishers Weekly.

Among the top 10 library systems, two had more than four million digital checkouts (Toronto and King County, Washington) and seven exceeded three million.

The bump in the number of public libraries reaching record circulation is the result of ‘innovative projects and campaigns designed to raise awareness and engagement,’ OverDrive officials said, including the Sacramento Public Library’s introduction of a new ‘Instant Digital Card’ where new patrons can ‘use their cellphone number to access the collection in less than 30 seconds.’
