Welsh librarian jailed for stealing books

In Wales, a librarian has been jailed for stealing books from the workplace and attempting to sell them online, reports the BBC.

Elizabeth Macregor, from Pontypridd Library in Rhondda Cynon Taff, stole hundreds of books from her workplace and tried to sell them on eBay, including a copy of Aberfan: A Disaster and its Aftermath by Joan Miller (Constable) for £400 (A$711).

After a police investigation found some of the missing titles listed for sale on Macregor’s eBay account, officers searched her home and recovered several hundred books. Some books had been fire damaged after she tried to burn them, and others were found in her green recycling bin.

She was sentenced to eight months in prison after being found guilty of two counts of theft and perverting the course of justice.
