Kobo report highlights mysteries and thrillers as most read in 2017

Mysteries and thrillers dominated Kobo’s 2017 top 10 ebook bestsellers and most read ebook titles in Australia, according to Kobo’s 2017 Book Report.

The Missing Ones by Patricia Gibney (Sphere) was the top selling title on Kobo in 2017, followed by Jane Harper’s The Dry (Macmillan) and Kerry Fisher’s mystery The Silent Wife (Bookouture), in second and third spots, respectively. Television adaptations also helped boost sales on the platform, with Liane Moriarty’s drama Big Little Lies (Pan) landing in fourth spot and Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale (Vintage) in seventh.

The only nonfiction titles to make Kobo’s top 10 ebook bestsellers were Scott Pape’s The Barefoot Investor (Wiley) and Saroo Brierley’s memoir Lion: A Long Way Home (Penguin).

Many of the top 10 bestselling titles also reappeared in the top 10 most-read list, with The Dry topping the chart for books read cover to cover. Second and third were Big Little Lies and The Missing Ones, respectively, while The Handmaid’s Tale, Lion, and two thrillers—Lies by T M Logan (Bonnier) and The Girl Before by J P Delaney (Quercus)—all reappeared in the most-read list.
