Bray appointed Bloomsbury Australia MD

Liz Bray has been appointed the managing director of Bloomsbury Australia following the recent departure of Kate Cubitt.

Bray has worked in the publishing industry for more than 20 years, and was most recently deputy sales director at Simon & Schuster. Bray has also been children’s book director at Allen & Unwin, where she was responsible for the Bloomsbury children’s division in addition to other lists.

‘I’ve long admired Bloomsbury, their outstanding stable of authors, diverse list and clever publishing, and I’m thrilled to be working with them again,’ said Bray in a statement. ‘I’m looking forward to further growing the company’s profile and sales in this market, delivering great books to local readers.’

Bray will report to the publisher’s group sales and marketing director Kathleen Farrar. ‘Bloomsbury Australia is an important part of our global strategy,’ said Farrar. ‘In our seven years as an independent company based in Sydney, we have achieved real impact with writers from all over the world in the Australian and New Zealand markets, and our sales revenues have grown dramatically … I very much look forward to working with Liz Bray again. Given her history of working on Bloomsbury’s biggest book brands, it is more than fitting that she joins us to drive our future growth.’

Bray will commence in the role on 3 April.
