Pantera acquires the Author People

Pantera Press has acquired boutique publishing company the Author People from co-founder Lou Johnson.

The purchase will see Pantera take on US rights to A Thousand Shards of Glass by US author Michael Katakis, as well as local authors Kim Kelly, Laura Bloom, Ondine Sherman, Polly McGee, Kelly Brooke Nicholls and Linda Buchan, with titles continuing to be available through United Book Distributors and Lightning Source.

Johnson established the Author People with Tom Galletta in 2015, with a focus on engaging people with authors ‘in meaningful and direct ways’. The business publishes print books, ebooks and audiobooks through a number of retail affiliates.

In a statement, Pantera Press CEO Alison Green said, ‘the Pantera Press team is incredibly excited about the potential this model unlocks and eager to introduce new readers to these great storytellers. We believe in signing authors, not books, so we’ve loved the author-centric model that Lou embedded into the DNA of the Author People. We will continue nurturing these authors while broadening their marketing and distribution platform.’

Johnson, who is currently publishing director of Murdoch Books said the acquisition is a ‘perfect fit’. ‘I am so proud of what we created and in awe of the amazing authors we represented. I will be cheering them all on and Pantera Press from the sidelines.’
