Kostakis wins IBBY Ena Noël award

Will Kostakis’ YA novel The Sidekicks (Penguin) has won the 2018 Ena Noël Award, a biennial prize administered by the Australian branch of the International Board on Books for Young People (IBBY) to encourage emerging writers and illustrators.

The judges said that The Sidekicks, which tells the story of three very different young people bound together in their grief after losing their best friend, is a ‘truly deserving’ winner, adding that it was a pleasure to read ‘such a broad and diverse selection of Australia’s emerging children’s and YA authors and illustrators’.

The Ena Noël Award was established in 1994 by IBBY Australia founding president Ena Noël and is open to Australian creators under the age of 35 who have had a book published in the two years prior to the award closing date.
