TitlePage affected by DDoS attack

The Australian Publishers Association (APA) announced yesterday that the industry’s pricing and availability service TitlePage was affected by a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack, which caused multiple, but short, service outages and slowed response times to searches on the platform.

The APA said the issue, which has now been resolved, caused system speed reductions and took up storage space, which restricted searches. The APA was unable to inform members via email, as the attacks also restricted the ability of the APA to extract contact email addresses from its client base.

The intermittent attacks were coming ‘from various IP addresses emanating out of the USA although in reality the attackers could be from anywhere’, said the APA on its website.

The APA told Books+Publishing that it ‘does appear to have been a targeted attack’ and that the issue will be looked into further, with plans for a ‘significant review’. The APA thanked users while the issue was being resolved.
