Varuna announces 2018 Publisher Introduction Program recipients

The recipients of Varuna’s 2018 Publisher Introduction Program have been announced.

The program offers writers a one-week residency at Varuna and the opportunity to have their manuscript considered for publication by a publisher.

The writers, and the publishers who will consider their works, are:

Black Inc.

  • Trish Bolton for crime novel ‘Stuck’, in which ‘a bored legal secretary helps a bereaved man solve the murder of his girlfriend, putting her life at risk’.

HarperCollins

  • Sarah Nesbitt for popular fiction novel ‘Confinement’, in which ‘a new mother struggles with mental illness while her husband finds himself the pawn of a nefarious boss’.

Pan Macmillan

  • Matthew Russell for ‘The Phrenologist’s Cabinet’, a historical detective novel set in 1840s Boston.

Penguin Random House

  • Andrew Swales for genre/literary fiction crossover ‘The Skeleton Crew’, about ‘an oil rig crew stranded at sea as the world around them descends into chaos’.

Scribe

  • Su-May Tan for short-story collection ‘Hide and other stories’, about ‘the lives of people from Malaysia, including migrants to Australia’.

Text

  • Rosalyn Bent for ‘The Pound Pear’, a ‘queer novel about first loves, the importance of family and the value of meaningful work’.

UQP

  • Ali Chigwidden for YA novel ‘The Blackbirds, which asks, ‘How fast do you have to run to outrun your past?’

UWA Publishing

  • Debra Wain for ‘Reclaiming the Kitchen, a collection of ‘short fiction, flash fiction and vignettes about migrant women, food and culture’.
