Amazon’s Sydney warehouse to open mid-late 2018

Amazon will open a Sydney-based warehouse in the second half of 2018, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

The US retailer announced on Thursday that it would open its new Sydney warehouse as part of its expansion into the Australian market, and said it will begin recruiting immediately for a range of roles including operations, support and technical specialists.

The new 43,000-square-metre industrial facility is situated in the Goodman Centenary Distribution Centre in Moorebank, in Sydney’s south west, with access to the M5 and M7 motorways. The company said the new warehouse will enable it to increase its range, and support more third-party sellers who use Amazon’s delivery service, Fulfilment by Amazon, which the retailer launched in Australia in February.

It will be the US retailer’s second warehouse in Australia, after it opened its first Australian fulfilment centre in Melbourne’s south east and launched its local website last year.

‘This new facility builds on the capabilities of our first centre in Dandenong South, allowing us to continue to fulfil our commitment to fast and reliable deliveries for Australian customers,’ said Amazon Australia operations director Robert Bruce.

Amazon said it will also launch its subscription service, Amazon Prime, in Australia later this year.
