BWF releases 2018 schools program

The Brisbane Writers Festival (BWF) has released its 2018 Word Play program, designed for students from prep to year 12.

The Word Play program will run from 4-7 September at Brisbane’s Cultural Precinct in Stanley Place, South Brisbane. Authors announced for the program include US YA writer Veronica Roth and local authors Fleur Ferris, Davina Bell, Cally Black, Jared Thomas, Peter Carnavas, Sue McPherson, Jessica Watson, A L Tait, Lance Balchin and more.

Word Play will also present professional development sessions for teachers featuring a selection of authors and illustrators, and an Online Literature Festival, which will connect Word Play authors with students and educators in regional Queensland.

‘Word Play represents a forward-thinking program that brings together high quality, enjoyable content that speaks to children and young people about the world as they see it,’ said BWF acting chief executive Ann McLean. ‘I especially commend this program … for the quality of the training opportunities for teachers. Professional development for teachers is a key element of this program, and I encourage teachers to consider engaging and participating, both for the fabulous content these experts can provide, and for the social connection and sharing that occurs when teachers get together.’

In addition to Word Play, BWF will also present a series of events for children sand families on 9 September, as part of its full festival program, which will be announced on 5 July.

Presented by Uplit, the 2018 Brisbane Writers Festival will run from 6-9 September. For the Word Play program, see the BWF website.
