Brio launches Fantastica Prize for sci-fi manuscripts

Brio Books has launched the Fantastica Prize, an unpublished manuscript prize for local science-fiction.

Open to Australian and New Zealand writers, the prize is seeking submissions of science-fiction manuscripts of 30,000 words or more, and is specifically not interested in fantasy.

The winner of the Fantastica Prize will receive a publishing contract with Brio, offering 25% royalties on net receipts and 50% royalties on ebook sales. The winner will also receive a $2000 cash prize, which the publisher said will not function as an advance against royalties.

Entries for the prize are now open, and close on 31 January 2019. A shortlist will be announced in April 2019, and the winner will be announced between May and December 2019, according to the publisher. The release of the winning title is scheduled for March 2020.
