Donovan appointed scout for FremantleMedia

Australian editor and consultant Philippa Donovan has been appointed literary scout for production and entertainment company FremantleMedia Australia.

Donovan will be covering book-to-film as well as TV adaptations for world English-language territories, with a focus on Australian content.

Donovan—who splits her time between the UK, the US and Australia—told Books+Publishing she will work across the English language (and translation into English) for Fremantle as well as her other clients, LA/Toronto-based production company Mad Rabbit, and a joint venture between ITV America and The Walking Dead producers Circle of Confusion.

‘The streaming market is very international right now, and there is a heavy focus on co-production, so literary scouts cannot be not curtailed by territory as they once were,’ said Donovan. ‘Book-to-film and TV is wide open. Who knows where the next big hit will come from!’

Donovan established her consultancy Smart Quill in 2011. She has worked as an editor for around 300 authors and recommends to a stable of 50 literary agents in the UK, US and Australia.
