Shortlist announced for inaugural Danger Prize

The shortlist has been announced for the inaugural Danger Prize, awarded for the best book, film or TV drama about Sydney and crime.

Three true crime books were shortlisted, alongside the two-part television miniseries Blue Murder: Killer Cop.

The shortlisted books are:

  • The Fatalist (Campbell McConachie, Hachette)
  • The Suitcase Baby (Tanya Bretherton, Hachette)
  • Last King of the Cross (John Ibrahim, Pan).

The inaugural prize, an initiative of the Bad Sydney Crime Writers Festival, is open to work first published or screened in the 2017/18 financial year. The winner will be announced on 31 August by former political journalist Laurie Oakes, at the opening night of festival, which runs from 31 August to 2 September.

The Bad Sydney Crime Writers Festival explores ‘Sydney’s unique relationship with crime’. Last year’s inaugural festival included a Skype interview with international guest Lee Child, as well as sessions featuring local authors Nikki Gemmell, Caroline Overington, Michael Robotham, James Phelan and Michael Finnane.
