The Little Bookroom to hold kids book festival in Melbourne

Melbourne children’s bookshop The Little Bookroom will hold its first kids book festival in October, called Kids Book Fest.

Held at the Fitzroy Town Hall, the one-day event will feature a three-hour ‘storytime spectacular’ from 10am to 1pm, aimed at children aged three and up, and a session for kids aged seven and up from 2-5pm.

The storytime spectacular sessions will feature children’s book creators Alison Lester, Jane Godwin, Anna Walker, Davina Bell, Allison Colpoys and Maxine Beneba Clarke, as well as a band performing musical versions of Alison Lester’s books. The program for older children features authors Sally Rippin, Elliot Perlman, Peter Helliar, Adrian Beck and James Foley, among others. The full program will be announced on Monday, 1 October.

‘We are deeply proud of the high standard of picture books published in Australia,’ writes The Little Bookroom on the Facebook event page. ‘Kids Book Fest is an opportunity to cheer on the makers!’

Kids Book Fest will be held on 13 October, marking 58 years since The Little Bookroom first opened.

The festival will feature a pop-up shop stocking titles by festival guests, as well as some new releases ‘made available for us exclusively, before publication day’.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, The Little Bookroom opened ‘big sister’ bookshop Neighbourhood Books in June this year.
