Subbed In announces six winners of 2018 Chapbook Prize

Subbed In has announced six winners of its 2018 Chapbook Prize.

The winning entries, chosen from a shortlist of 14, will be published by Subbed In. They are:

  • When I Die Slingshot My Ashes onto the Surface of the Moon (Jennifer Nguyen)
  • HAUNT (THE COOLIE) (Jason Gray)
  • blur by the (Zhi Yi Cham)
  • The Hostage (Šime Knežević)
  • If you’re sexy and you know it slap your hams (Eloise Grills)
  • wheeze (Marcus Whale).

Subbed In had originally planned to publish the work of one winner, but explained that ‘given the overwhelming quality of the work’, it decided to launch a Pozible campaign to fund the publication of additional titles.

The fundraising target was exceeded, with a total of $5325 raised. ‘We never imagined we’d be publishing more than one finalist from the 2018 Subbed In Chapbook Prize, but here we are!’ writes Subbed In. ‘The generosity of those who supported our crowdfunding campaign means we are now in a position to publish six titles from our shortlist.’

Subbed In expanded the prize—previously open to NSW residents only—to writers across Australia earlier this year.
