Book-to-screen projects receive Screen Australian funding

Two book-to-film adaptations feature among the projects receiving story development funding from Screen Australia.

The projects, and their producers, are:

  • A feature film adaptation of Finding Sanity: John Cade, Lithium and the Taming of Bipolar Disorder (Greg de Moore & Ann Westmore, A&U), the biography of the Australian doctor who discovered the first pharmacological treatment for a mental illness. Produced by Sandcastle Studios, the biographical drama will be written and produced by screenwriter Chris Cudlipp, with screenwriter Mike Bullen attached as executive producer.
  • A six-part teen drama series based on Isobelle Carmody’s novel The Gathering (Puffin), which follows a group of disillusioned teens who discover they have been chosen to battle a centuries-old evil in their small town. Nicholas Verso will write and direct, with Craig Irwin co-writing. Kodie Bedford, who recently co-wrote for Grace Beside Me and Mystery Road, will also co-write the series.

A total of $400,000 of story development funding was announced for 16 projects. For more information, click here.
