James appointed director of UQP

Ben James has been appointed director of the University of Queensland Press (UQP), effective from 25 March.

James will replace Jill Eddington, who retired from the position of CEO in late 2017. Publishing director Madonna Duffy has been acting in the role since Eddington’s departure.

James, who will relocate from Melbourne to Brisbane with his family for the role, has formerly held leadership positions at Cengage Learning Australia and Macmillan.

In a statement, James said: ‘UQP is one of Australia’s leading independent publishing houses with a diverse list and a long history, so naturally I’m delighted and honoured to lead this organisation.’

Duffy said that James’ background in publishing and business analysis will ‘perfectly complement the extensive trade publishing and editorial experience UQP already has’.
