Springer Nature shares journal articles on ResearchGate

Springer Nature is sharing articles from its journals on academic social networking site ResearchGate, reports the Bookseller.

In a pilot program spanning three months, the company will upload full-text articles from 22 journals to ResearchGate. Journal authors will be able to collaborate on the platform, share articles and measure the impact of their work. Springer Nature will gather feedback about the effectiveness of the program from scientists and institutions.

In April 2018 journal publishers Springer Nature, Cambridge University Press and Thieme reached an agreement with ResearchGate on sharing articles and protecting copyright. As part of the agreement, ResearchGate said it would educate users about their rights on copyright-protected content and promptly remove copyright-infringing content when alerted by publishers.

The agreement was reached after a number of publishers launched legal proceedings and issued takedown notices to ResearchGate, claiming it was sharing up to seven million copyrighted articles without permission.
