Hurley joins A&U NZ as publisher

Michelle Hurley will join Allen & Unwin New Zealand in the role of publisher.

Hurley has worked at Random House New Zealand and Allen & Unwin Australia, and has been a features editor and national books editor for Fairfax. Most recently, she was the editor of the New Zealand Herald’s Canvas magazine.

A&U NZ publisher Jenny Hellen said, ‘I’m really excited that Michelle is joining us. She has a sharp eye for a good story and this, along with her strong commercial instincts, means that she’ll fit into our team brilliantly. Allen & Unwin New Zealand has been growing strongly and creating excellent bestselling books, and Michelle’s appointment enables us to continue this growth.’

A&U Australia publishing director Tom Gilliatt said, ‘I couldn’t be more delighted that Michelle is joining us. Jenny Hellen has created a hugely impressive New Zealand publishing list, and I know that with Michelle working alongside her, our local New Zealand publishing is set to grow even stronger.’

Hurley will commence the role in July.
