Byron Writers Festival program announced

The program for this year’s Byron Writers Festival, which runs from 2–4 August, has been announced.

More than 140 local and international guests will take part in over 120 sessions at the Elements of Byron Resort and venues across the Northern Rivers region.

UK author A C Grayling will deliver the annual Thea Astley address on ‘The Crisis of Democracy’. Other international guests include Italian crime writer Gianrico Carofiglio, UK scientist Julia Shaw, US journalist and author Megan K Stack, Korean-American novelist Min Jin Lee and Indian poet, novelist and dancer Tishani Doshi. Kurdish-Iranian refugee and award-winning author Behrouz Boochani will appear via live stream from Manus Island.

Local guests include Markus Zusak, Gail Jones, Toni Jordan, Jock Serong, Melissa Lucashenko, Tony Birch, Michael Robotham, Di Morrisey, Vicki Laveau-Harvie and Bruce Pascoe, among others.

The festival’s Kids Big Day Out family program on Sunday, 4 August will feature authors including Alison Lester, Tony Flowers, Morris Gleitzman, John Flanagan, Maxine Beneba Clarke, Zoe and Georgia Norton Lodge and Isobelle Carmody.
