‘A Room Called Earth’ sold to US, Canada

North American rights to Victoria-based writer Madeleine Ryan’s forthcoming debut novel A Room Called Earth have been sold to Penguin Random House USA imprint Penguin Press.

Rights were sold by Barbara J Zitwer of the Barbara J Zitwer Agency to Penguin Press editor Casey Denis.

Ryan’s novel is told through the eyes of a young autistic woman as she gets ready for and attends a party, including intricate and awkward encounters with others, until a love interest enters the narrative and ‘opens up our understanding of her and her world’.

As previously reported by Books+Publishing, Scribe acquired UK and Commonwealth rights to A Room Called Earth and will publish it in Australia in early 2021. The novel will be published in the US and Canada in mid-2020.
