In the UK, publishing industry employment was up 3.9% in 2018, growing from 192,000 jobs in 2017 to 199,000 in 2018, reports the Bookseller.

The figures from the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport found one in ten jobs in the creative industries in 2018 were in publishing, with the sector boasting the third highest growth in the UK creative industry sectors in 2018.

CEO of the UK publishers association Stephen Lotinga said the results are ‘a key indicator of a vibrant, growing, successful industry and of the enduring popularity of the books and journals being produced’.

The publishing figures were down on 2011 numbers—the furthest year statistics went back—when there were 211,000 jobs.
