Ferns appointed HarperCollins NZ general manager

Karen Ferns has been promoted to the new position of HarperCollins NZ general manager, where she will take responsibility for all New Zealand sales, marketing and publishing activity.

Ferns previously ran the sales teams for HarperCollins and Arotahi, a combined sales and marketing agency representing Hardie Grant, Simon & Schuster (S&S) and Walker Books.

Ferns will report to HarperCollins ANZ CEO James Kellow. Kellow said Ferns has already been ‘hugely impressive in her short time’ with the company. ‘She is without peer in this market, and I’m excited to see what she will achieve for HarperCollins and our Arotahi clients, as she brings her considerable experience to bear on a combined sales and marketing operation, and our local publishing list.’

Kellow said HarperCollins has ‘an excellent leadership team in place’ and it is ‘no coincidence that Hardie Grant, S&S and Walker Books have shown good growth year-to-date’ and that HarperCollins had the strongest local publishing increase year-on-year according to Nielsen.

Marketing communications manager Sandra Noakes and publisher Alex Hedley will report to Ferns.
