PRH acquires debut thriller in two-book deal

Penguin Random House Australia has acquired world rights to Tasmanian author Kyle Perry’s crime/suspense thriller debut, The Bluffs, in a two-book deal with the Nash Agency.

Set in the Tasmanian wilderness and described as ‘Scrublands meets Picnic at Hanging Rock‘, the novel is centred on a group of teenage schoolgirls who go missing in the Great Western Tiers.

Publisher Ali Watts says, ‘This is a hugely exciting acquisition for us, in a genre that is so hot right now and from a cracking new author talent who has a fascinating other life as a youth worker and counsellor. Set troubled teenagers in one of the most remote and dangerous places on earth and you won’t believe what unfolds. The reader is left guessing, heart racing, from the first word to the last.’

Perry says, ‘Writing has always been a passion and to be offered a contract by Penguin Random House Australia still doesn’t feel real. The Bluffs is inspired by my real-life encounters with clients, including teenage politics, drug feuds, and how little it takes for things in their lives to get out of hand quickly and violently.’

PRH will publish The Bluffs in August 2020.
