Publishers Publicity Circle Melbourne to host third meeting

The third quarterly meeting of the Publishers Publicity Circle Melbourne will be hosted at the Text Publishing offices on 19 September, and will feature a panel discussion with University of Melbourne researchers Dr Alexandra Dane and Claire Parnell on their research into the vulnerability of book publicists to sexual harassment.

Dane researches contemporary book publishing culture, focusing on issues of gender and power in the literary field. Parnell researches digital publishing and inclusivity in contemporary book culture. Together with Dr Millicent Weber, Dane and Parnell are currently undertaking research into the working practices of book publicists, and the real world definition of ‘author care’ in a professional setting.

Based on the UK model which has been running for fifty years, the PPC aims to create a professional network of book publicists, provide development opportunities for junior publicists, networking opportunities between publicists and the media, and create recognition for the work of book publicists.

The next Sydney meeting is Wednesday, 11 September at the HarperCollins offices.
