Three book retailers among Australia’s Top 500 private companies

Three book retailers have made IBISWorld’s Top 500 Private Companies List, reports the Australian Financial Review (AFR).

Book retailer The Co-Op and Australian Geographic ranked 378th, dropping from 330th spot in 2018. Its revenue was $153.55 million in FY2019, down 1.4% on the previous year.

Online book retailer Booktopia ranked 419th, up from last year’s ranking of 428th, with $131.45 million in revenue—up 16% on the previous year’s total of $115.95 million.

For the first time, bookselling chain QBD has made the list, ranking 481st with revenue of $105.35 million—up 51.1% on the previous year.

The list, which was compiled by market research company IBISWorld, ranks the biggest private Australian companies based on revenue earned in the 2018–19 financial year.
