Hoffmann’s ‘inclusive, uplifting’ picture books sold to US

Hardie Grant Egmont has sold US rights to Susann Hoffmann’s Girls are Pretty … (smart, clever, fast) and Boys Will Be … (kind, calm, creative) to Penguin Philomel.

Girls are Pretty … and Boys Will Be … were published in May this year. Hardie Grant Egmont says the ‘inclusive, uplifting and celebratory books’ reject gender stereotypes for small children, and empower them to ‘be whoever they want to be’.

Penguin Philomel will publish them together as a flip picture book in the US summer 2020 under the title You Are Awesome. Rights were negotiated at a ‘contested’ auction by Hardie Grant Egmont rights director Annabel Barker.
