OzCo launches funding initiatives for promoting Australian books overseas

The Australia Council has launched three new literature initiatives aimed at engaging with overseas readers and increasing international demand for Australian literature. The opportunities, aimed at authors, translators, publishers, literary agents and rights managers, include three new funds for literature that will each offer $5000 per successful applicant.

The rights fund, available in two funding rounds per year, supports literary agents, rights managers and publishers to visit international markets such as book fairs to sell rights to Australian works.

The travel fund, available to published Australian authors and illustrators, and to international literary organisations, supports authors to travel to attend events or activities associated with publication and promotion of their work overseas.

The translation fund is aimed at supporting international publishers in the translation of Australian works of creative writing. Funding is also available to Australian publishers looking to support Australian translators producing foreign language works for local publication. It is available in two funding rounds per year.

For more information the funding opportunities, visit the Australia Council website or contact the Australia Council’s arts practice director for literature, Wenona Byrne.
