Lake wins 2019 CHASS Australia Book Prize for ‘The Bible in Australia’

Meredith Lake has won the 2019 Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences’ (CHASS) Australia Book Prize, for her book The Bible in Australia: A cultural history (NewSouth).

Lake’s book was chosen from a shortlist of three. She was announced as the winner at the 2019 CHASS Australia Prizes Dinner on 30 October in Melbourne.

Lake’s latest win comes a week after The Bible in Australia won the 2019 Prime Minister’s Literary Award for Australian History. It previously won the NSW Premier’s Australian History Prize and the 2018 Christian Book of the Year.

The $3500 prize is part of the CHASS Australia Prizes program, which aims to draw international attention to Australia’s achievements in the humanities, arts and social sciences.
