Kat Muscat Fellowship increases to $5000

The value of Express Media’s annual Kat Muscat Fellowship has increased from $3000 to $5000.

The fellowship, named in honour of the late writer and Voiceworks editor Kat Muscat, offers professional development up to the value of $5000 for an editorial project or work of writing by a young person of an underrepresented gender aged between 16 and 30.

‘We are delighted that in the fifth year of the Kat Muscat Fellowship the amount awarded to the annual recipient has increased to $5000,’ said Veronica Sullivan, chair of the Custodial Committee of the Kat Muscat Fellowship. ‘This allows the fellowship to continue supporting the feminist voices of the future, recognising the crucial role that development and mentorship play in the careers of emerging writers and editors.’

Fellows are selected by the Custodial Committee of the Kat Muscat Legacy Projects, which includes members of Express Media’s board and staff, the Muscat family and community members. In 2019 the fellowship was awarded to Liana Skrzypczak, while an anonymous donor funded an award of $2000 for highly commended writer Caitlin McGregor. Past recipients include Bri Lee, Fury and Ana Maria Gomides.

Applications for the 2020 fellowship are now open. For more information, visit the Express Media website.
