Black Inc. sells ‘The Motivation Hoax’ to UK

Black Inc. has sold UK and Commonwealth rights (ex ANZ) to James Adonis’ The Motivation Hoax: A smart person’s guide to inspirational nonsense (Nero) to The History Press.

The History Press, the UK’s largest independent history publisher, will publish The Motivation Hoax as part of a new, general trade nonfiction list launching in 2020.

History Press editor Jo de Vries says, ‘The Motivation Hoax has a really interesting premise and is engagingly written. I think it will do well here, particularly given the anti-zeitgeist at the moment … a great addition to our new nonfiction list.’

Published in Australia in January 2018 by Black Inc.’s commercial imprint Nero, The Motivation Hoax ‘exposes the unrealistic clichés and misleading mantras that frequently just make you feel bad, replacing them with evidence-based insights that are no less motivating, but are credible, reliable and, most importantly, scientifically tested’.

Black Inc. rights and permissions coordinator Erin Sandiford sold the rights after a meeting at this year’s Frankfurt Book Fair. Rights to the title have also been sold to PWN in Poland and Jarir in Saudi Arabia, as well as world audio rights to Audible.
