Room on our Rock wins Charlotte Huck Award in US

In the US, Room on our Rock (Kate & Jol Temple, illus by Terri Rose Baynton, Scholastic) has won the NCTE Charlotte Huck Award for outstanding fiction for children.

Room on our Rock is an allegorical exploration of the emotions and fears that drive exclusion, persecution and rejection of refugees, told through the story of a group of seals who fear the approach of a strange pair of seals whose rock is being overwhelmed by the sea.

Room on Our Rock is published by Kane Miller in the US.

The Charlotte Huck Award, which is presented by the National Council of Teachers of English, commemorates the work of educator Charlotte Huck, who led children’s literature studies at Ohio State University from the mid-1950s to 1986, championing the classroom use of storybooks to teach reading and language arts.
