Marchetta’s ‘On the Jellicoe Road’ to be adapted for drama series

Melina Marchetta’s 2006 young adult novel On the Jellicoe Road (Penguin) is being adapted for a young adult drama series, reports Deadline.

The project is a co-production by the US’s Wild Sheep Content, Germany’s ZDF Enterprises and Australia’s Werner Film Productions. Wild Sheep Content is a new content business set up by former Netflix executive Erik Barmack.

Writers Samantha Strauss (Dance Academy) and Angela Betzien (Secret City) will help adapt the series.

On the Jellicoe Road centres around 17-year-old Taylor Markham, leader of the boarding school underground community on Jellicoe Road, amid a territory war going on between the boarders, kids from Jellicoe Town, and the cadets—Sydney boys who come to Jellicoe for a six-week training exercise every year.

Barmack said, ‘Young adult series have become truly global, and we are thrilled to be working on bringing this seminal Australian work to a global audience.’
