Inaugural Writing WA Literary Lions Medal shortlist announced

Writing WA has announced the shortlist for the inaugural Literary Lions Medal. The new award recognises individuals who have made a substantial contribution to the vitality and success of Western Australia’s literary culture.

The shortlisted nominees are:

  • Rachel Bin Salleh (Magabala Books)
  • Gary de Piazzi  (WA Poets Inc)
  • Lesley Reece (The Literature Centre).

The winner receives a cash prize of $10,000. Chair of judges and Writing WA treasurer Renato Sansalone said: ‘This shortlist highlights excellence across our diverse sector—in Indigenous writing and publishing, in poetry, and children’s and young adult literature.

‘Our three shortlisted nominees are all powerhouses in Western Australia’s literary culture and we are pleased to have this opportunity through the Literary Lions Medal to recognise them for the contributions they make to our sector on a continuous basis.’
