Editors NSW : Memoir from both sides of the fence – author and editor

An evening with Jacqueline Kent, editor and biographer of Beatrice Davis and Julia Gillard, among others. Her memoir Beyond Words: A Year With Kenneth Cook was published in 2018. Having your own life as the subject of your book has been, she says, an interesting experience. She discusses the issues involved in writing biography and memoir, as well as the joys and irritations of working both sides of the fence, as editor and author.

Jacqueline is the author of biographies of editor Beatrice Davis, musician Hephzibah Menuhin, and Julia Gillard. A Certain Style: Beatrice Davis, A Literary Life won the National Biography Award and the Nita B. Kibble Award; An Exacting Heart: The Story of Hephzibah Menuhin also won the Kibble Award and was shortlisted for the New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria Premier’s Awards as well as the Walkley Award and the Magarey Medal for Biography. Her newest biography, of Australian pioneer suffragette Vida Goldstein, will be published in September 2020 by Penguin Books.

The evening includes light supper and refreshments.
