Faber Writing Academy expands to Brisbane

In 2020 Allen & Unwin (A&U) will expand the Faber Writing Academy to offer courses in Brisbane for the first time.

Run by UK-based Faber & Faber in partnership with A&U, the writing school has been running in Australia since 2010, with courses currently offered in Sydney and Melbourne.

The new courses in Brisbane will be presented at Avid Reader Bookshop, with author Kristina Olsson to deliver the three-month course Writing a Novel starting in June 2020. A&U says that Olsson will be joined by a range of guests throughout the year.

Faber Writing Academy manager Sam Twyford-Moore said: ‘I have long been a fan of the vibrant literary community in Queensland, and I’m excited to partner with Avid Reader and secure Kristina Olsson to deliver our internationally recognised program in Brisbane. This also points to the blossoming of Faber Writing Academy in Sydney and Melbourne and the support that both Faber & Faber and Allen & Unwin have committed to developing new and emerging writers.’

Applications for the Writing a Novel program in Brisbane are now open.
