‘The Trespassers’ makes UN reading list on sustainability goals
Meg Mundell’s novel The Trespassers (UQP) has been included on a recommended reading list inspired by the United Nations’ sustainable development goals—a set of global benchmarks that are designed to help achieve ‘a better and more sustainable future for all’.
The novel follows a shipload of migrant workers who flee the pandemic-stricken UK for Australia, and the chaos that ensues when passengers start falling gravely ill and a crew member is found murdered. The book was chosen to illustrate goal number 14: ‘Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources’.
Comprising seven books from writers around the world, the reading list was compiled using recommendations from a number of UNESCO Cities of Literature, including the Melbourne City of Literature, which nominated Mundell’s novel.
