Bottomley to give keynote at ABA conference

The Australian Booksellers Association (ABA) has announced the full program for its 2020 conference, to be held at the Sofitel Wentworth in Sydney from 21–22 June.

International guest Nic Bottomley, owner of Mr B’s Emporium in Bath and current president of the UK’s Booksellers Association, will deliver the opening keynote on Sunday, 21 June. Bottomley joins other guests on the day including Scribner Australia publishing director Ben Ball and children’s author Jessica Townsend, with the Sunday program to be followed by a gala dinner and awards night.

The Monday program features ‘small business guru’ Fiona Killackey, Readings bookseller Angela Crocombe facilitating a discussion on business sustainability and the ABA’s Green Pledge program, and Little Bookroom co-owner Leesa Lambert leading a panel on decolonising bookshops. The closing night keynote speaker is yet to be announced.

In conjunction with the ABA conference, the Australian Publishers Association will host the inaugural whole-of-industry conference BookUp on Tuesday, 23 June, also at the Sofitel Wentworth. The first keynote speakers for BookUp were announced last week, and tickets and accommodation packages for both conferences are still available.
