WestWords to host day-long writing festival

Western Sydney literature organisation WestWords will host a day-long event in celebration of the ways in which Western Sydney has ‘shaped many diverse and cultural stories’.

A Celebration of Writing will feature panels and conversations that, according to the organisers, provide ‘an opportunity for Western Sydney storytellers to share their experiences and unique stories which have been shaped by their environment’.

Writers Luke Carman, Rawah Arja, Wai Chim and Catherine Jinks are among the program’s guests, while the event also features a Multilingual Poetry Wrap-up featuring Eunice Andrada, Helen Latukefu and Mohammed Awad. Playwright Donna Abela, filmmaker Vonne Patiag and TV writer Enoch Mailangi will appear on a panel about cinema, TV and theatre.

‘It is a great line up, really varied artists and something we haven’t really seen from Western Sydney before. I’m looking forward to it as both a speaker and punter,’ said Carman.

A Celebration of Writing will take place on Saturday, 21 March at the WestWords Centre for Writing in North Parramatta. Tickets are now on sale.
