$50k Marten Bequest scholarships to Roberts-Orr, Mol, Woollett

Writers Isobel Roberts-Orr, Oliver Mol and Laura Woollett are among 12 recipients of Marten Bequest scholarships, worth $50,000 each.

Roberts-Orr received a scholarship for poetry, while Mol and Woollett received theirs for prose.

The scholarships are administered by the Australia Council on behalf of Perpetual as Trustee. Previously called the Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarships, they were established by John Chisholm Marten, a lifelong patron of the arts and literature, to develop the artistic practice of young artists through travel.

Recipients of the 2020 Marten Bequest scholarships will have two years to undertake their projects, while in light of current travel restrictions, 2019 recipients will receive a further year to enable them to carry out their projects.
