Sales of Bluey books hit 1 million copies

Sales of Bluey children’s books have reached 1 million copies in Australia, the series’ publisher Penguin Random House Australia (PRH) has announced.

The first three Bluey titles, which launched in November 2019 under the Puffin imprint, were the second-, third- and fourth-highest selling Australian children’s books in 2019, and eight out of nine Bluey titles are currently in the top 20 on the Nielsen Bookscan charts: The Beach, Fruit Bat, Time to Play!, Bob Bilby, The Creek, Big Backyard, and the recently released All About Bluey and All About Bingo.

The animated ABC TV series on which the books are based is produced by Ludo Studio and co-commissioned by ABC Children’s and BBC Studios. Ludo director Charlie Aspinwall said, ‘It’s so wonderful to see Australian readers young and old enjoying these beautiful Bluey books. Congratulations to everyone at Ludo Studio, BBC Studios and Penguin Random House on this amazing milestone!’

In May Bluey: The Beach was awarded the 2020 ABIA Book of the Year, the first time that a children’s picture book has won the award.

PRH said six more Bluey titles are scheduled for release in the second half of 2020, including Father’s Day title My Dad is Awesome (August), colouring book Fun and Games (August), magnet book Let’s Play Outside! (October) and sticker activity book Hooray, It’s Christmas! (November).
