First phase of online-only Beijing Book Fair begins

The first phase of this year’s Beijing International Book Fair—which is taking place entirely online due to the Covid-19 pandemic—has begun this week, with the launch of the fair’s Smart Rights Link online meetings portal.

More than 1000 exhibitors from 68 countries have uploaded over 23,000 books to the Smart Rights Link portal, which will remain operational until 31 December. An estimated 400,000 books will be uploaded during the fair, and meetings can be arranged through the portal until 26 October.

The Global Reading Festival features a month-long program of free livestreamed events from more than 100 publishing houses and cultural institutions around the world.

Smart BIBF, a five-day program of professional events, begins on 26 September.
