QBD, Dymocks petition Vic premier to reopen Melbourne stores; Hachette to boost ADS capacity

Bookselling chains QBD and Dymocks have each written to Victorian premier Daniel Andrews asking that bookstores be allowed to open in Melbourne, which has been under stage four lockdown since early August.

Hachette has announced a $2.5m investment in its distribution business Alliance Distribution Services. WestWords and Booktopia have launched a ‘Booktober’ fundraiser, while this year’s Australian Short Story Festival has been cancelled.

In awards news this week, the winners of the Davitt Awards for the best crime books by Australian women were announced, as were the recipients of the Varuna Writing NSW 2020 fellowships. The shortlist for the Vic Prem’s History Award 2020, while Little Pink Dog Books announced a new prize for author/illustrators.
