CBCA Book of the Year winners; Watkins appointed Ultimo publishing director

The winners of the CBCA Book of the Year awards were announced last week, while a new study found CBCA early childhood category shortlisted books to be overwhelmingly white.

In other awards news, the winners of the Ned Kellys were announced, as were the recipients of Varuna’s 2021 Residency Fellowships. The longlist for the Walkley Book Award was released, while writer Robbie Arnott won the inaugural $30,000 Hedberg residency.

Hachette’s Robert Watkins has been appointed Ultimo Press publishing director, while Hardie Gant has appointed Konrad Spilva to a consulting role to accelerate its digital transformation. Nielsen has released a new study on Australian audiobook consumption, and the UK’s Sam Missingham has been revealed as the keynote for this year’s digital-only SPN conference.
