Vale Brian Yates

Logistics manager Brian Yates passed away on the weekend.

Yates’s career in book publishing spanned three decades. He managed the Universal Publishers (UBD Gregory’s) warehouse for many years from the 90s, then moved to the University of New South Wales Press to oversee their distribution centre. He later returned to Hardie Grant to manage logistics until leaving the industry in 2019.

Hardie Grant COO Andrew Davis said:

‘Brian made a significant contribution to the development of our logistics capabilities. I remember (and I know our logistics providers won’t forget) how effective he was in feistily ensuring our stock movements had priority. He had long innings with several publishers, applying his expertise and keeping books turning over in warehouses and moving across the world. We are all saddened by this sudden loss and pass our condolences to Wanita and family.’

Ian Webster, Sally Milner Publishing MD and Hardie Grant director said:

‘Brian was one of those quiet achievers that “oiled the machinery” of one of our key functions—logistics—over many years.’
